“Rape of the Sabines” Sculpture
“Rape of the Sabines” Sculpture
(1583) By Giovanni da Bologna (1524-1608) in the Loggia dei Lanzi, Florence
Like many Mannerist sculptors, Bologna created tension in his designs posing his idealized figures to display each taut limb and bulging muscle. Here the use of a spiral axis creates a sense of drama. This bonded Carrara marble replica beautifully recreates the appearance of the original; each detail is enhanced and hand finished with care by the artisans in the Santini Workshop in Italy. Mounted on a solid black marble base.
